I am Gary, I am a male Sports Massage Therapist and owner of The Fitness And Nutrition Club Sports Massage Clinic where, we offer qualified and insured, Sports Massage Therapy (including posture analysis) for pain relief, maintenance, sports performance, stress relief and relaxation.
What Is Sports Massage?
We can help you with chronic pain, acute pain, injury prevention and recovery, muscle tension and muscle soreness.
Some of the reported benefits of sports massage include increased joint range of motion (ROM), increased flexibility, increased sense of well-being, decreased muscle tension, decreased neurological excitability (nerves more relaxed), decreased muscle spasms, decreased pain and better sleep.
Sports Massage is a good option if you have a repetitive use injury to a muscle, such as what you may get from playing a sport, training, in the workplace or just from everyday life. It's also a good option if you're prone to injuries because it can be used to help prevent sports injuries. You may also use sports massage to increase flexibility and training performance.

WHAT IS SPORTS MASSAGE THERAPY?
Sports Massage Therapy is deep tissue massage combined with other types of massage to help stretch & mobilise your body and reduce pain. We are qualified in and use a range of techniques at sessions based on your needs and treatment plan, including traditional deep tissue massage, stretching, taping, and strapping, hot stone, ultrasound, and myofascial cupping.
At your first session, if required we will carry out a full posture analysis, gait analysis and medical history. We will then discuss your treatment plan and get started!
IS IT JUST FOR SPORTS PEOPLE?
Sports Massage is not just for professional athletes or sports people. We treat people with back or muscular pain from everyday life, age related pain, occupational health referrals due to repetitive strain in the workplace, people recovering from an injury and people who just want a relaxing massage.
Sports Massage helps you and your body feel looser, less stressed, and ready for action – whether that's on the sports field, in the gym or at the office. Clinical sports massage can benefit anyone!
Sports Massage Therapies are available to men and women, our youngest client is 16 and oldest is 85. You can have a chaperone with you during the session if it makes you feel more comfortable, and any clients under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

DO I NEED A SPORTS MASSAGE?
Sports Massage Therapy is particularly useful to athletes and sports people during training, competition and injury aiding recovery, helping in the prevention of injuries, and being heavily involved in pre and rehabilitation.
However, it is not exclusively for sports people. So many other people also benefit from its effects. Postural problems such as tight muscles occur across the population and many of our patients find it helps them cope with the demands of modern life.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT / INCLUDED IN THE MEN'S FULL BODY MASSAGE?
60-minute men's Deep Tissue full body massage sessions provide extra time to ensure your entire body, both back and front, receives thorough attention. You should allow up to 1 hour 15 mins for your session. Whether you seek relief from an injury or simply wish to unwind, the massage is tailored to meet your needs.
Complete Undraped (Naked) Massage: Top-to-Toe Care
This session is conducted undraped (naked), covering the entire body from top to toe. Addressing the following areas:
Back: Neck, back, lats, glutes, hamstrings, calves
Front: Shoulders, chest, arms, abdominals, obliques, groin, pubic, quads, legs. You will be massaged right up to the base of and around your "crown jewels" to get deep into the muscles at the top of the inside leg, adductors/groin strains and pubic symphysis as well as down to the base of your genitals and across the top of your public bone to relieve any potential cause of abdominal tendinopathy.
Professional and Non-Judgmental Environment - At my Whittlesey clinic, we provide a fully professional, judgement-free full body positive massage experience. If you happen to get an erection during the session, there is no need for concern. It is a natural response to increased blood flow and touch, I will just ignore it, don’t worry I have seen it all before.
Open to All - While this service is primarily advertised as a men's massage, it is open to all clients, regardless of age or gender and we welcome transgender clients who need a safe space and LGBTQ friendly massage therapist. Our male (gay) massage therapist prioritizes creating a comfortable environment for all our clients. Female clients are welcome to book, though we acknowledge the nature of the this massage type might make some uncomfortable and instead may prefer to book one of our standard 45mins massages. All clients are invited to bring a chaperone if desired.
HOW DOES SPORTS MASSAGE DIFFER FROM NORMAL MASSAGE?
Sports Massage is applied with your goals in mind, meaning we look at what you need and then apply the relevant technique(s) to help you reach your goals. These techniques vary from: finding muscle imbalances which may be the cause of your current issue and offering remedial exercises to correct them; questions about your sports equipment or mechanism of injury; along with treating the tissues which need attention. Your goals may vary depending on whether you are carrying an injury or are just needing to bring your legs back to life for your next training session.
WHEN SHOULD I HAVE A REGULAR SPORTS MASSAGE?
There is no "best" time to have a sports massage, everyone differs in their needs and responds differently to treatment. As a guide: if you have an injury which needs treating, it is best to leave it a few days after your heavy sessions so we can work into the tissue without too much discomfort for you. Muscles are very lively after interval sessions or heavy training loads because the tissue is over-sensitive at this point, we can't sink into the muscles to relieve the injured tissue. If you are not injured and your muscles are sore post a hard session, then this is a good time to have a recovery treatment to keep you on track with your training plan. If you are treating yourself to a massage for the first time before an event, give yourself a few days for your muscles to settle after the treatment. Regular clients know how their bodies respond to a treatment, some bounce off the couch, others take a few days to bounce back.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE SPORTS MASSAGE?
If time and budget were not an issue, every week. But the reality is they are. So, if you are on a budget and treating yourself to a massage for relaxation or to help performance, then we would suggest as often as you can. If you receive regular massage for an injury, then keep your goals in mind. At your first session we will go through a treatment plan with you, and we can discuss the best realistic frequency of sessions.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
The majority of male clients prefer naked or covered with a towel if we are working on full body, ladies typically wear a thong or g string.
Disposable G-Strings are available for all clients.
We use towels during the treatment. Depending on the areas we are treating such as back or shoulders ladies will normally have to undo or remove their bra. Stretchy underwear or shorts is good if we are treating legs. Before any hands-on work starts, we will discuss your treatment plan and what it will involve.
Guys, if we are working on glutes, top of thighs or deep lower back you may need to remove your underwear and indeed you may be more comfortable doing so. But you will be covered by a towel although you are welcome to opt to go naked.
Men to put your mind at rest it does not matter if you get an erection during a session, it is sometimes the bodies natural reaction to the increased blood flow, as well as the sense of touch, I will just ignore it, don’t worry I have seen it all before.
SHOULD SPORTS MASSAGE HURT?
Yes and no. If you are crawling off the couch trying to get out from under our elbows, then NO it should not feel like that. When too much pressure is applied and causes undue pain, your natural response is to tense up, this means the therapist is now treating your voluntary muscle tension and not the problem area. Pain is a personal emotion, everyone tolerates pain differently, we will be sensitive to this and regulate our techniques to get the tissue to respond to the treatment. In some instances, to get that tissue to respond it may be a little sensitive, but it should not be unbearable. However never feel wrong to shout if you are struggling to unclench your teeth - you know your pain tolerance better than we do and we am always happy to ease up a little.
